About Us

Encountering disasters is a phenomenon that has continued throughout human history. The effects of disasters experienced in the past are repeated in the form of similar events today. However, the effects of disasters do not produce similar results around the world. The most important reason for this difference is that the lessons people learn from the events they experience and the frequency of disasters are variable.

A striking example of this situation is the Eastern Marmara (Gölcük) earthquake of magnitude Ms=7.4 that occurred on August 17, 1999. Approximately 16,000 people lost their lives in this disaster. The disasters that occur today should also include those caused by human factors. For example, events such as fires, nuclear explosions, and global warming that occur for various reasons can actually be considered disasters and can negatively affect human life.

The program in this field is intertwined with fields such as health, civil defense, first aid, physical education, communication technologies, engineering and biology. The aim of the program is to train innovative, researcher and entrepreneurial experts equipped with the knowledge and skills to take precautions such as pre-disaster education, awareness raising, project development, to ensure coordination during disasters and to manage activities to minimize all kinds of losses.
